Marco A. Almaraz Herrera
Born 1968
Forged by distance, discipline, and the road itself, Marco A. Almaraz Herrera is a lifelong motorcyclist whose journey began in 1983 and never slowed. A world traveler by machine and will, he crossed continents between 1996 and 2001, riding through Mexico, the United States, Western Canada to the Alaska border, Ireland, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and the Bahamas. His life has unfolded across the United Kingdom, Taiwan, the United States, and Mexico—each place leaving its mark, none breaking his stride.
Marco is a world record–setting Iron Butt rider, etching his name into endurance history by completing 1,500 miles (2,500 km) in under 24 hours on a 150cc motorcycle with a passenger—a feat achieved in Mexico that defies convention, physics, and expectation. He is also the first rider in Mexico to complete 1,000 miles (1,610 km) in under 24 hours on a motorcycle with a sidecar, expanding the limits of what endurance motorcycling could be.
When Harley-Davidson celebrated its 100th anniversary, Marco answered with action, founding the Texas 66 Riding Group—the only group to ride nearly the entire length of historic Route 66. The ride became legend, earning national recognition and a feature on ABC News.
A builder of tribes and institutions, Marco is the Founder and active President of:
Asphalt Rats Endurance Motorcycling, Mexico’s first and only endurance motorcycling organization
Iron Butt Association Mexico, officially recognized worldwide
Aztec Crawlers Mexico, the country’s first and only motorcycle sidecar organization
He also created Mexico’s first and only event dedicated exclusively to motorcycle sidecars, ensuring the legacy of three-wheeled adventure in the country.
Beyond the asphalt, Marco rides with his dog at his side, believing loyalty and adventure belong together. He actively trains his dogs for Search and Rescue volunteer work, carrying endurance into service.
His story has appeared in international publications including Texas Two Wheelers, Sidecar France, Sidecar Travelers (Netherlands), Revista Moto, and Revista Motociclismo. As a writer and international motorcycle and sidecar tour guide under Amigomoto, Marco leads riders not just across geography, but through culture, history, and raw experience.
A survival and bushcraft enthusiast, former opening team member of Dave & Buster’s Inc. (1991–2004), and an open-heart surgery survivor (2024), Marco stands as living proof that endurance is not measured only in miles—but in resilience.
This is not a hobby.
This is not a career.
This is a life lived against the limits.
